Thanks Oana! Were there any points that particularly resonated with you, or that you'd like me to expand on in a future post?

Hi Joshua! Yes, this one hit home: "This siloed structure prevents community from becoming a cross-functional growth driver, capable of aligning and driving impact across sales, marketing, customer success, support, and product teams."

I'm a community gal with over a decade of experience in creating communities within the creative industries in Eastern Europe. I mention the location because it's important. Way too often, we talk about community building only from a Western point of view. But the local nuances are important and heavily shape how we build, consolidate, and grow communities.

I particularly liked this article and that specific idea because it highlights that without a cross-functional mindset, there's so much that we can achieve and do. When serving a department only (ie, Marketing), we ignore other voices that are important and can shape the outcomes. However, in this part of the world, it's a challenge to make people from various specialties work together, trust each other, leave their egos aside, and collaborate for the greater good.

So yeah, thank you for going in-depth and offering so much context around your arguments. We need this type of approach and conversation more than ever. Keep building! 🙌

Thanks for sharing your experience, Oana. I can relate - I'm guessing many other community builders can also. Many of us recognize the possibilities for community to make a huge cross-functional impact. Unfortunately, the lack of internal trust you're pointing out is not limited to any one region, but can definitely show up in more pronounced ways depending on the cultural context. But there ARE stakeholders who get it, and who will be on your side in working together towards a greater result. Each time I find one, it's super galvanizing for me, so I hope you find some as well.
